Elkhart County Landfill
The following rates apply to Elkhart County and any county adjoining Elkhart County, including those counties in the state of Michigan: $40.00 per ton with a $20.00 minimum charge. For all other locations, the rate is: $100.00 per ton. These rates apply to both commercial and residential customers.
On Wednesdays, the Elkhart County Landfill offers NO FEE trash day for Elkhart County citizens. If you live in Elkhart County you can bring up to 3 bags in (no size/weight limit) for no charge!
Electronic waste (such as computers, TVs, VCRs, and stereos) is accepted at the Elkhart County Landfill for $10.00 per unit.
The Elkhart County Landfill accepts leaves at no charge, every day, for both commercial and residential customers.
The landfill accepts cash or check and we are now accepting credit and debit cards. There is a 3% convenience fee to use credit or debit cards.
Please note that we do not help customers unload the trash, TVs, etc. that they bring to the landfill. Assistance with unloading items is a $25 fee. If you have something that is too heavy and you cannot lift it yourself, we strongly recommend that you bring someone to help you unload it.
Please also note that effective July 1, 2019, there is a new Anti-Litter Ordinance for Elkhart County. Please make sure your loads are covered and securely tied down from wherever you are bringing your load from. The first fine is $250 and each subsequent fine after will be $500. This ordinance will be enforced by a Sheriff's Office officer specifically hired for this ordinance and he will be patrolling looking for uncovered loads and loads that may be covered incorrectly and are losing debris.
Items not permitted to be disposed of in the landfill include:
Whole Tires - if the tire is shredded or cut in fourths, they can be accepted at the above rates.
Appliances with Coolant in them - such as a refrigerator or air conditioner. You may dispose of the appliance only if there is a certified refrigerant reclamation form provided.
Liquid of any type
Larger propane tanks - small camping size cylinders are OK.
Gas tanks and sealed drums - emptied tanks that are triple washed with holes drilled in them and/or the lids removed to prove they are empty can be disposed of in the landfill.
